Name of Board/Committee involved with: I am involved with the ACG Toronto Board Executive as Director and Secretary as well as Chair of the Governance Committee.
What made you want to join the board at ACG Toronto? Joining the board was a way to give back and lend some expertise from my experience as a corporate lawyer in Toronto to the association as it continues to grow and develop in Toronto.
How did you get into the industry?
I have worked in the M&A (and PE in particular) for many years. I’ve practiced law at Stikeman Elliott for over 25 years, starting with venture capital transactions and now work with entrepreneurs buying and selling businesses, and with PE and other buyout firms buying businesses.
Why did you join ACG Toronto? Much of my practice is in the mid-market and deals with PE investing and buy-out transactions. I had attended a number of ACG Boston events and found that many of my clients were members and attended their events. The format of the Capital Connection Conference made it easy to connect with many of my existing clients and potential clients. The topics of the various programs at ACG Toronto throughout the year and at conferences were interesting and relevant to my practice.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
Interacting with people and lending expertise where it can help the most and is most applicable to the organization to help it progress to the next level, as well as helping to source members and facilitate connections.
