With today’s pet population numbering well over 144 million, and more than 2/3 of all American households sharing their home with at least one cat or dog, it is estimated that over 58.5 billion will be spent on our pets in the U.S.  And they all have to eat!!! 

Freshpet, an all-natural premium dog and cat food company, started in 2006 and is leading the way in the new fresh category in the pet food industry. The “all-natural premium pet food" sector has CEO and Top Cat Richard Thompson adopting an approach that results in "pressing the accelerator as fast as we can". 

Private Equity backed Freshpet with strategic partner Tyson Foods, has experienced rapid growth as Mr. Thompson helped catapult the company from having product in close to 200 stores in 2006 to occupying shelf space in more than 12,000 stores across the United States and Canada in 2013 and still growing. 

Mr. Thompson’s career also includes his success as Founder and CEO of the American Italian Pasta Company (AIPC), largest producer of pasta in North America and #2 in the world where he took the company public in 1997 with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. In 2013, ConAgra Foods purchased the company and took it private.
