Join us for a BrownBag focused on key strategies and considerations on manufacturing in Mexico. Our panelists will focus on the following topics:

  1. An overview of manufacturing in Mexico covering key terms and agreements: IMMEX, Maquiladoras, Nearshoring, USMCA (formerly NAFTA), Shelter programs and fulfillment services
  2. Operational strategies, advantages and challenges
  3. Typical entity structures for US companies manufacturing in Mexico, and differences in how setup typically works with China
  4. Tax issues, strategies and common pitfalls

As President of CM3 Manufacturing, German oversees all client relationships covering manufacturing in Mexico. German consults with clients on a variety of cross-border manufacturing arrangements including setting up new shelter arrangements, soft landings and contract manufacturing arrangements to consulting on existing maquiladora setups and M&A transactions. Prior to CM3 Manufacturing German spent over 15 years in consulting, auditing, transaction advisory and general financial consulting roles where he worked with cross-border manufacturing clients. German began his career with KPMG Mexico.

J. Rafael Ramírez Gómez holds a degree in Administrative Information Systems from ITSON University in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora. He has over 26 years of experience in the manufacturing industry. He has served as Director of Operations in Mexico for EXELA Technologies, Production Planning and Sales Manager, and Demand Management for Pioneer Electronics, Demand/Production Planning Lead for MOTOROLA, as well as holding various leadership positions in manufacturing, logistics, finance, technical project management, and supply chain for world-class multinational companies in Mexico, the United States, and the Caribbean. In addition to his extensive professional experience, he possesses comprehensive knowledge of APICS-CPIM and Six Sigma Green Belt programs. Besides his current role at TREVÉ, he is part of the Supplier Development Committee of Index Zona Costa and the Contract Manufacturing Committee of Tijuana EDC.

Juan is licensed to practice law in both Mexico and California. He counsels clients across various industries on business and corporate matters, including cross-border transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures. Juan also provides advice on corporate restructuring, corporate governance, compliance, and a broad range of commercial agreements. He assists with the implementation of corporate strategies recommended by Procopio’s International Tax Practice for the firm’s clients.

Before joining Procopio, Juan spent 12 years at Tijuana and Guadalajara offices of a global law firm. He was a member of their Corporate (M&A) Practice for seven years before being entrusted to establish and lead the Foreign Trade and Customs Practice in their Tijuana office. During his tenure with his former firm, a significant part of Juan’s practice involved advising, establishing, and protecting maquiladoras.
