Tell us about your role at RS Finance.

I am the President of RS Finance, a company I started in 2009.  RS  Finance is a sell-side M&A boutique focused on selling companies with enterprise value ranging from $15-$100 million.  Essentially my role is to work with a business owner to sell his or her company.  I undertake a highly-customized sale process, spending a lot of time up front understanding what the owner envisions as the “ideal” outcome in a sale.  This usually relates to the type of buyer that the owner thinks would be best suited to own the company going forward, be it a private equity firm, industry buyer or other type of buyer.

How long have you been an ACG member, and why do you stay involved?

I first joined ACG in the late 1990’s, after I returned to Boston from living in New York for a decade.  The Chapter was not  a “membership” chapter at the time, and its leaders were trying to grow it aggressively.  It obviously worked because today we have a fairly robust cross-section of the New England M&A community among our members.

Tell us something about yourself that we wouldn’t find on your resume.

I enjoy watching college football.  My father used to have me sit with him on Saturdays to watch the feature college game.  He spent time describing the various offensive formations and asking if I could figure out what play the team was going to run.  It was great!  Usually the feature game came down to the last few minutes and was really exciting.  When I’m not doing M&A any more I will may buy an NFL team.

If you had 25 hours a day, how would you use that extra hour?

Working.

What was the best advice you’ve ever received?

Never forget the people who helped you.  None of us would be where we are today without a helping hand of some sort.  And returning the favor makes the world a better place.  Imagine what would happen if everybody helped someone every day.  You can tell that I don’t  live in New York anymore.
