Emily Powell

Powell's Books
President & Owner

Emily Powell grew up in the family business and worked in the bookstores from a very young age. In 2004, she began to prepare for increased responsibility, and ultimately leadership of the family business. Emily has a BA from Haverford College and MBAs from the University of California – Berkeley, and Columbia University. Over the last twenty years, the book business has changed dramatically, and at an unprecedented rate. Emily is successfully navigating the company through this treacherous terrain and has focused on customer service, selection, and innovation to stay relevant in a highly competitive marketplace. In addition to this work, Emily manages the Powell Family Real Estate LLC, which develops and operates small urban real estate projects in Portland.

A committed community leader, Emily has served on the board of Oregon Public Broadcasting, the Development Committee at Caldera Arts, and has volunteered her time with numerous organizations including the President’s Advisory Council for Portland Community College, and the campaign for Oregon United for Marriage. Currently, Emily serves on the board of Green Canopy, Inc, urban home builders who inspire resource efficiency in the Seattle and Portland residential markets.
