Blurred Lines: The Convergence of
Consumer and Retail
Tuesday, November 1, 2016
3:45pm - 8:30pm
ACG is combining its Consumer and Retail Conferences into one Mega-Conference on November 1, 2016 in Recognition of the Rapid Convergence of These Two Sectors
Consumer and retail companies have long been viewed as operating in separate sectors and using very different approaches to building their businesses. The rise of the Internet and growth of Millennials have been two of the primary factors rapidly moving these two sectors much closer together in order to connect with today's consumers. Both sectors now embrace the importance of brand building as an integral part of their strategy. Both realize that a much deeper understanding of their consumer and customer is central to their success, as technology drives the pace of change and causes significant disruptions. Big data and consumer research is no longer the sole domain of CPG companies but is a necessity in the daily running of successful retail businesses.
Connecting with consumers wherever they are -- in bricks-and-mortar stores, on the Internet or on mobile devices -- is the new paradigm, be it through advertising, rich content, the ubiquitous app, and a myriad of social media choices. The winners will be those who play by the new rules of the game, and the losers will be those who are too slow to adapt to the rapidly changing world of retail and consumerism.
We have created a thought provoking program which will feature a keynote address by McKinsey & Co’s Sajal Kohli who leads the consulting firm’s Retailing practice in the Americas. The title of the keynote is, "No Ordinary Disruption: Four Forces Breaking All the Trends" and is based on the firms proprietary research in the consumer sector. We will also have a Fireside Chat with Mitchell Gold, one of the co-founders and Chair-man of the internationally acclaimed home furnishings company, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. In addition, we will have two panels of well-known consumer/retail oriented Investment Bankers and Private Equity Investors to discuss how the convergence of the Consumer and Retail sectors is impacting their respective businesses. More details to follow.
