Spence grew up in Salt Lake City. He has spent his 27-year professional career working with and insuring venture backed, private equity-financed, IPO and public companies, particularly in the technology and life sciences industries. He has insured 27 out of the last 34 IPO companies in Utah. He specializes in Cyber, Errors and Omissions (E&O), Venture Capital Asset Protection (VCAP), and Directors and Officers (D&O) liability coverage. In 2001, Spence co-founded Diversified Insurance Group. Actively involved in the venture and technology communities, Spence is a former President of TechAssure, a v100 member and a contributor to Silicon Slopes. In 2019, he was a Utah Business “CEO of the Year.” He has spoken to numerous organizations, including international groups, on insuring and managing the risks of high growth companies. He co-founded the Summit Directors and Officers Conference and has co-chaired the event for the past 19 years. Spence currently serves on the Make-A-Wish-Utah and National Association of Corporate Directors Utah boards. He and his wife of 29 years, Ann, make their home in Cottonwood Heights. They have four sons and one daughter-in-law: Christian 26 (Madi), Sam 25, Max 21 and Jacob 17. When he is not peddling insurance, Spence enjoys sports, golf, traveling with his family and exploring in the Colorado Plateau.
