Sponsor Spotlight: Carlton Fields

Carlton Fields is home to more than 300 lawyers serving our broad client base from the tri-state area including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and offices in Washington DC, Miami, Tampa, Atlanta and here in Los Angeles.

We are committed to diversity at Carlton Fields.  We care.  We are all experiencing a defining moment in the history of our country’s struggle to provide equal justice and open arms to black Americans. The American Lawyer, Vault’s Best Law Firms for Diversity rankings, Law360’s Diversity Snapshot, and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index for “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality” recognize that we have a deep and sustained commitment to the core values that bring together Asian-American, African-American, Latino or Hispanic, Native American, and self-described multiracial attorneys.  We are gratified we consistently enjoy high recognition for diversity and excellent legal guidance as an AmLaw 200 and National Law Journal 250 law firm.

Our LA office transactional team is well known for its capabilities in understanding and structuring and guiding our clients through sophisticated and complex transactions in corporate (including spinoffs, SPACS, venture startups and the like), intellectual property, technology and telecommunications, cybersecurity, digital media, consumer brands (including cannabis), capital markets, M&A, real estate, private equity, CMBS and life and agency lending, securities and fund formation, among other areas. From our 11 offices, we cover a broad range of white collar, commercial and class action litigation and other matters.

Because of the transactional nature of what we do for our clients and their business ventures, it is critical we endeavor, as a firm, to be responsive to our clients’ needs, requests, and expectations, serve our clients with practical and substantive knowledge, skill, loyalty, creativity, perseverance, and care; and we seek to be conscientious in attaining our clients’ objectives in the most cost-effective manner possible. To meet these goals, we recruit and retain lawyers and staff of the highest caliber.  It’s part of our culture and what we look for when we hire great lawyers – that they be entrepreneurial, practical and solutions driven and enjoy working as a team!

In today’s coronavirus environment, our clients were thrust into a pivotal moment in the history of the United States.  We are gratified that many of our clients seek our guidance with open arms.  These clients range across the spectrum from international, national, and local corporations, financial institutions and private equity, state and local public entities (for municipal financings including charter school financings) and individuals.

Many of our clients will continue in 2020 to cope with the many and great challenges of managing their businesses yet they will continue to do business; whether forming new ventures or addressing challenges to their existing business models. In finance, we represent special services, LifeCos, CMBS and Agency lender clients.  We represent real estate companies coping with revenue challenges.

Lastly, in our quest to determine what distinguishes best-in-class client service, we began studying hundreds of “best practices” widely discussed in the profession. We culled a list of five that our experience and discussions with clients have proven offer the greatest impact. We adopted these as our firm’s Client Service Standards to guide each of our engagements.

  • Client Experience - We visit our clients at their businesses. At the consummation, we want our clients to feel we went above and beyond our legal work and helped them achieve their goals, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Client teams - Consisting of a dedicated team of attorneys, government consultants, and staffing projects with professionals who understand business and industry.
  • Upfront commitments - At the outset of each engagement, we discuss expectations, business objectives, goals, timeline, staffing, budgets, and preferred means for communicating.
  • Post-matter briefing - We meet with our clients to discuss their experience once the matter is complete; that they had an excellent experience.

We enjoy our work as trusted advisors.
