2020 Texas Economic Outlook: Expansion Likely to Continue

In 2019, Texas businesses faced historically tight labor markets, a decline in the oil and gas sector, a strong dollar and increased tariffs. Despite these challenges, job growth slowed only moderately and unemployment rates remained at their lowest levels since the data began in 1976. Heading into 2020, headwinds include continued tight labor markets, political and trade uncertainty, and slowing national and global economies. While uncertainty is greater than normal, leading indicators and the current momentum of job growth suggest that the long expansion in the state is likely to continue next year. Come and find out more details on the factors likely to influence Texas in 2020 and the challenges facing regions and industries in the state.

This lunch will take place at The UT Club, located on the East side of DKR Memorial Stadium on the UT campus (2108 Robert Dedman Drive, Austin 78712)

In these instances ACG Austin/San Antonio will work to accommodate the attendee, and if not able to do so to the attendee's satisfaction, ACG Austin/San Antonio will refund their registration fee.

Cancellation Policy – Cancellations received in writing to acgasa@acg.org by 5PM, Feb. 11th will receive a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations received after 5PM on Feb. 11th. If you are an ACG Member unable to attend, you can transfer your registration to another person for this same event. If the person attending in your place is not an ACG Member, they will need to pay an additional fee to bring them up to the non-member rate to attend.

Blake Hastings

Senior Vice President

As senior vice president, Blake Hastings oversees Human Resources functions at all Dallas Fed offices, including talent management, benefits and compensation, and diversity and inclusion.

He has oversight over the San Antonio Branch and is responsible for all Dallas Fed activities within Central and South Texas, including operating and administrative functions, and outreach activities to banks, businesses and community-based organizations.

Hastings also oversees the Dallas Fed’s government relations activities, which focus on federal, state and local officials within the Eleventh Federal Reserve District. He is one of five members of the Federal Reserve System’s Government Relations Leadership Steering Committee, which guides the strategy and coordination of government relations efforts of the Federal Reserve Banks.

He is active in the San Antonio and South Texas community, serving on several boards, including Junior Achievement of South Texas, San Antonio Area Foundation and San Antonio Economic Development Foundation’s SA Works Industry Advisory Council. He is a member of the Bank’s Senior Management Committee.

Hastings holds a master’s degree in international business and a bachelor’s degree in international economics from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
