Overview
Expansions Don’t Die of Old Age. What Kills Them?
This will soon be the longest post-World War II expansion in U.S. history. And while the economy is performing well, expansions often die at their peak. Hence it is not unreasonable to consider whether the end is nigh for this one.
In this presentation, economist Michael McCracken will discuss causes for the end of expansions, including shocks to oil prices and the popping of asset bubbles. McCracken, an assistant vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, will give special attention to the possibility that the Fed itself, through its policies, could kill the current expansion.
A complimentary breakfast and free onsite parking are available.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required by April 5. (Sorry, the event is full and registration is closed.)
This event is sponsored by the Louisville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in partnership with the Association for Corporate Growth—Kentucky Chapter.
