The ACG Birmingham Network is hosting several panelists at the City Club to give an update on the Private and Public Equity markets in Birmingham and beyond.
 
Our panelists will participate in a frank and insightful discussion on the status of today's markets. Each panelist represents their perspective in the M&A market and will cover current metrics and terms, where the market is going and what is driving those trends today.

Managing Director

Berkin joined Regions in 1999 and transferred to Regions Business Capital in 2009 from National Corporate Banking Group. His experience includes Asset-Based Lending, Leveraged Finance, Private Equity Group Lending, Large Corporate and Middle Market Business Development, Underwriting, Portfolio Risk Management, and Relationship Management. Berkin earned a BBA in Finance from the University of North Alabama.

David joined Cook & Bynum Capital Management in 2010 as a principal/partner and the firm’s President. Prior to joining Cook & Bynum, he was a principal at Founders Investment Banking. David also previously worked as a financial analyst in the corporate finance groups of investment bank Robertson Stephens and commercial bank Wachovia. He received an M.B.A. from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and attended Hampden-Sydney College, where he was valedictorian of his class and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Economics.

Director

Michael J. Humber is a Director with EBSCO Capital. His responsibilities include investment opportunity sourcing and leading transaction execution teams for EBSCO Capital and EBSCO Industries. In addition to Michael’s day to day activities of identifying and evaluating investment opportunities, negotiating and structuring transactions, and conducting and managing due diligence efforts, Michael works closely with portfolio company management teams on strategy and execution regarding add-on acquisitions.

Prior to joining EBSCO Capital, Michael was a Principal at Redmont Capital, an investment firm focused on preferred equity and mezzanine transactions in the middle market. At Redmont, Michael focused on financial and operational due diligence, transaction structuring, deal execution, and portfolio company operational improvements. As a C.P.A. formerly with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Michael worked in the Financial Advisory Services division conducting securities litigation valuations, fraud investigations, and environmental damage calculations.

Michael’s educational background includes a dual degree B.S.M. in Accounting and Management Information Systems from Tulane University and a M.B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University. Michael is also a certified public accountant in the state of Alabama. In his free time, Michael enjoys soccer, backpacking and spending time with his wife and two young children.

Mike McCraw, Managing Director of Founders Strategic Advisory Practice, is an experienced financial and business consultant and has over 25 years’ experience serving clients in the areas of financial management, financial restructuring, business consulting, exit advisory and mergers & acquisitions. Mike is passionate about aligning his client’s business pursuits and ambitions with their personal life goals. He likes to start every new client engagement listening first then serving toward the client’s desired finish line.

Prior to joining Founders, Mike led the Outsourced Services Practice Group at Warren Averett, one of the largest CPA firms in the Southeast. Before Warren Averett, Mike served as managing principal of the Birmingham office of a regional CPA firm he co-founded. At both places, Mike helped clients navigate through the challenges of managing and sustaining growth while increasing enterprise value.

Additionally, Mike has served as Vice President/CFO and COO of a construction company, CFO for a manufacturing company, as well as a corporate accountant and controller for two hospitals.

Mike is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mike received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Troy State University, where he was quarterback on a National Championship team.

Outside the office, Mike has a passion for investing in young people by coaching youth sports. He is past Treasurer of Shades Mountain Park and the Alabama Chapter of Arthritis Foundation, and past Chair of the Finance Committee for Hunter Street Baptist Church. Mike resides in Hoover, AL with his wife and two children.

Jonathan Williford

Jonathan Williford

Mr. Williford joined Kian Capital in June 2015 and is primarily responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and monitoring new and existing investment opportunities.

Prior to joining Kian Capital, Mr. Williford was an Associate at Regions Business Capital, a leveraged finance platform of Regions Financial specializing in asset-based and leveraged cash flow facilities, where his duties included assessing new and existing credit opportunities, underwriting and due diligence.  Prior to Regions Business Capital, Mr. Williford interned as an Analyst at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. in the High Yield Debt Research and Private Wealth Management groups where he was responsible for client portfolio review, market research and financial analysis and modeling.

Mr. Williford holds a BS in Finance from Wake Forest University.
