Retail & Consumer Update: Consumer Spending Trends & Predictions

ACG Boston brings together New England's dealmaking community for efficient and effective networking! Reconnect with your middle market M&A peers after the summer and register for our Fall Kickoff event, September 10 at the Exchange Conference Center in Boston.

With the holidays approaching, retailers need to understand customer expectations and habits that will drive consumer spending. In partnership with Creo Advisors, we’ll share recent survey results highlighting the key trends, sector categories and predictions shaping consumer sentiment and spending patterns.

A panel of consumer-focused dealmakers will then discuss impacts on portfolio companies and investment strategies through 2024, and what they anticipate for the post-election environment.

Simon Jewkes is a partner in Citrin Cooperman’s Transaction Advisory Services Practice and is based out of the New York City office. Simon has 18 years of experience and focuses on providing due diligence and value creation services to private equity and corporate clients. He has provided financial due diligence on over 300 M&A transactions including buy and sell side support for acquisitions, disposals, mergers, growth investments, debt investments, distressed/restructurings, SPAC, and refinancing transactions. He has broad experience across industry sectors in North America and Europe on deals ranging in size from $5 million up to $30 billion. Simon served as the National Managing Principal for the Consumer and Retail sector at a prior firm and has significant transaction experience in the industry. Simon’s transaction advisory expertise includes quality of earnings analysis, profitability analysis, net working capital and net debt analysis, review of financial projections, cash flow modeling, and purchase agreement consultation. Simon also has a strong understanding of carve-out transactions, bankruptcy, refinancing transactions, and IPO readiness. He also has significant experience of leading other diligence work streams including tax, IT, HR, operations, and valuation services. Previously, Simon has worked as a principal at one of the largest providers of audit and assurance, tax, and advisory services in the U.S., as a managing director at a global business advisory firm, and as a senior manager at a Big Four accounting firm in transaction services in New York and London. EDUCATION AND LICENSES Simon earned his Bachelor of Science with honors in Business Administration from the University of Bath, England. He is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Stuart Rose is a recognized expert in direct marketing and retail investment banking, with over 15 years of deal making experience completing sell-side and buy-side transactions for clients such as Cuddledown, Victorian Trading Company, Imaginova, S&S Worldwide, AmeriMark, and the Thompson Group. Stuart previously led retail and direct marketing businesses for over 20 years. He started his career as a senior executive at Edison Brothers Stores, a St. Louis-based specialty store retailer. Stuart then went on to the catalog and e-commerce industries as a senior executive at Specialty Catalog Company and Legal Sea Foods. Immediately prior to his investment banking career, Stuart was CEO of Oriac Design, a multichannel retailer of home furnishings. Stuart taught direct marketing and advertising at Bentley College. Stuart holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Economics and Philosophy from Brandeis University and an MBA from Harvard University.
