OVERVIEW:
There are 1.5 million cyber attacks each year, which is about 4,000 attacks per day, according to IBM (NYSE:IBM). Businesses are attacked 16,856 times a year. Juniper Research has predicted that the cost of data breaches will reach 2.1 trillion globally by 2019. The cyber industry is a fragmented industry today, with more than 3,000 cyber security vendors. Cyber security companies have proliferated as the threat of cyber attacks has increased, and they have had little trouble, if any, securing venture funding. In the last five years, venture capitalists have poured 12 billion into 1,200 cyber security companies, according to the Chertoff Group.
In case you missed it Yahoo announced that over 500 million user accounts were hacked by a ‘state sponsored source’ and is now subject to millions of dollars in fines and fees. Public, private, small and middle market companies alike all suffer from the same vulnerabilities of cyber security. Industry experts predict total worldwide spending on cyber security from 2017 through 2021 will eclipse 1 trillion. Spending on cyber security is now about 74 billion a year.
