Private Equity in Food & Agriculture
TIME: 8:30AM - 10:00AM
LOCATION: Merrill Datasite, 1325 Avenue of the Americas, 33th Floor, New York, NY
Latin America is a global powerhouse in agricultural production with a diversified production base and market leadership in soy, sugar, orange juice, coffee, and timber, in addition to a vast array of higher value added production activities in fruit, vegetables and aquaculture products. According to the World Food Organization, the global forces of population growth, urbanization and general rising incomes in emerging markets will require that global food production increase by 70% in the next 35 years. With under 10% of global population and roughly 25% of available arable land, Latin America is extremely well positioned to meet this rising demand. Factoring in that the region has the highest level of global renewable fresh water supplies and that the bulk of arable land alternatives are in Africa, which suffers from political instability, unreliable water resources and a substantial infrastructure deficiency, it is clear that Latin America will lead the growth in global food production for decades to come. The business implications are tremendous in terms of primary production, seed and plant technology, machinery, inputs and value added products. To meet this heady growth, it will require hundreds of billions of dollars in capital investment in which Private Equity and Venture Capital will continue to play a prominent role. Please come join us for an exciting round table to discuss these issues.
