Speaker Joe StrausJoe Straus is a State Representative from San Antonio who has also been elected by his colleagues to serve as Speaker of the Texas House. He was first elected Speaker in 2009 and his colleagues have since re-elected him three times by overwhelming margins.
Under
the leadership of Speaker Straus, the House has helped the Texas private sector
build the strongest economy in the country. He and his colleagues have worked
to improve college and career readiness in public schools, to relieve traffic
congestion throughout the state, and to make state government more efficient
and transparent. Speaker Straus also led the successful push in 2013 to address
the state’s growing water crisis. Under his leadership, the House has
repeatedly balanced the state budget without higher taxes while prioritizing
education, public safety and infrastructure.
Speaker Straus encourages his colleagues to build consensus around innovative solutions to the state’s most serious challenges. He believes Texans want government to be limited, but that they also want it to work efficiently and to address the state’s challenges in an effective way.
Speaker Straus is a fifth-generation Texan, a San Antonio native and small businessman. He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters.

Cancellation Policy – Cancellations received in writing to acgcentraltexas@acg.org by 5pm, Sept. 26th will receive a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations received after 5pm on Sept. 26th. If you are an ACG Member unable to attend, you can transfer your registration to another person for this same event. If the person attending in your place is not an ACG Member, they will need to pay an additional fee to bring them up to the non-member rate to attend.
