Vehicle as a Platform

Dr. Ken Washington, VP Research and Advanced Engineering, Ford Motor Company

As an Officer of Ford Motor Company, Dr. Ken Washington has arguably one of the most exciting and enviable roles at Ford.  He leads its worldwide research organization overseeing the development and implementation of the company’s technology strategy and plans.  Prior to joining Ford, Dr. Washington was vice president of the Space Technology Advanced Research and Development Laboratories at Lockheed Martin Space Systems. In this role, Washington was responsible for leading an organization of approximately 700 scientists and engineers in performing research and development in space science and related R&D.

Dr. Washington will speak about historical travel patterns; what transportation and a vehicle meant to us 30 years ago and what it means to us today.  He will discuss how technology is playing an ever-greater role in consumers’ relationship with their cars, Ford’s next generation mobility initiatives (wireless connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates, the Alex connection, and much more); and of course, he will talk about the hottest topic in automotive today: Ford’s autonomous (“self-driving”) vehicle program.  He will also go “beyond the car” and discuss how Ford’s technology extends to other applications, including the smart home.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear about the cutting edge research and development Ford is doing and the technology it has and will be bringing to the vehicle market and beyond.
