Jana Brownell

The Kirlin Company – Lighting Innovators Since 1985
President, Chief Executive Officer, Owner

From an early career in the healthcare-biotechnology industry (research, direct sales, international product management and product development), Jana transitioned from working for a multinational S&P 500 Corporation (Los Angeles) to working for her family’s lighting fixture manufacturing company headquartered in Detroit, MI.

Her decision to join The Kirlin Company from Baxter was based upon a strong desire to build a business, to be truly entrepreneurial and to perpetuate the quality of design of Kirlin lighting into its 2nd Century of operation. Jana’s background in healthcare facilitated The Kirlin Company’s global progress in medical lighting systems with patented ICU, birthing suite and cardiac cath lab lighting systems, and MRI lighting among many other lighting applications. The recent revolution in lighting to LED solid state technology has both excited and challenged The Kirlin Company.

Jana is married and mother of two adult children. She is a life-long community volunteer, Trustee of educational and philanthropic organizations, and a member of organizations, and professional groups where she usually has a leadership role. She is a member of WBENC and NAWBO (Women Business Owners organizations). She credits her parents for encouraging leadership, careful analysis, mindful action and appreciation of opportunity. Her hobbies include gardening, bee-keeping, skiing, wine and music appreciation.
