Designing and Assembling Skateboards to Promote Physical Activity in Youth

The women of New England's middle-market deal community are invited to join ACG Boston and Generus annual Women of Leadership Holiday Luncheon.  Lunch is on us as we gather to close out the year, and attendees will have the chance to design a one-of-a-kind skateboard (no experience necessary) with curated design supplies, then assemble a complete skateboard to be donated to Chill Boston/Manchester using skateboarding to promote mental and physical health while building acceptance, resilience, and community. Skateboard kits with all needed design supplies, hardware, and tools, will be provided.

Agenda

  • 12:00pm – 12:30pm: Introductions, lunch and team building activity
  • 12:30pm – 1:15pm: Networking and building skateboard
  • 1:15pm – 1:30pm: Package skateboards, event concludes

Pricing

  • ACG Members: $75
  • Non-Members: $125

About the Cause

Skateboarding has been shown to promote physical and mental health. Research has shown skateboarding has been used to build community, reduce crime, and provide needed therapeutic outlets. Explore how individuality in skate culture supports trauma-informed practice, promoting choice and voice.

NonProfit Partner: Chill Boston/Manchester

Founded in 1997 and growing to include Manchester in 2018, Chill Boston/Manchester operates year-round with snowboard, skateboard, surf, and stand up paddleboard programs for youth from 11 to 19 years old.. We work with schools, youth agencies, social programs, and boardsports partners to provide these programs with all costs covered and barriers to participation removed. We embody the latest Positive Youth Development best practices to ensure participating youth build resiliency through targeted lessons and challenging physical activities.

Our programs use the process of learning boardsports, an experiential learning cycle, and a core value-driven curriculum to help youth grow personally and see that there is a path out of their current circumstances
