In 2015, the Area Foundation received a gift from the John L. Santikos estate having an estimated value of 605 million. The gift included Santikos Theatres (seven theaters in San Antonio and two in Houston), over one million square feet of rental real estate and raw land assets. All of these businesses and assets are now operated under the direction of the Area Foundation.
More than 100 years ago, in 1914, the community foundation concept was born, giving rise to a new philanthropy, a new way of participating in community, and a new vision for the future. The San Antonio Area Foundation is now among the top 20 community foundations by asset size in the United States, out of more than 800 community foundations. Managing over 900 million in assets, the Area Foundation brings donors, nonprofits and leaders together to improve the quality of life for our community.
Dennis will introduce us to the Area Foundation and how it can help our members and their businesses give efficiently and effectively. He will also cover the transformational legacy gift from Mr. Santikos, provide an overview of the operations of the Santikos businesses by the Area Foundation, and explain how Mr. Santikos has proven himself as a visionary, not only in real estate and business, but also, now in philanthropy designed to support a wide range of charitable programs in our local area.
Dennis is a former Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (now Acelity), having retired from that position after 15 years with the company. He played an important role in growing KCI’s revenue to 1.3 billion during that time. While he was there, he created and led the Servant’s Heart Foundation, KCI’s “Internal United Way.” Prior to joining KCI, Noll was a partner at Cox Smith, where he chaired the firm’s Corporate and Securities Department for six years. Noll graduated summa cum laude from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, with a degree in Philosophy, and earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School.
