Mike Rypka

Torchy's Tacos
CEO

Mike Rypka has been in the food business since he was 13 years old. Food is his passion, and he spent his early years cutting his teeth in the business. He got his Culinary Arts Degree at Johnson & Wales University in Miami and later his degree in Hospitality Management at Florida International University.

He has been Executive Chef at many prestigious organizations, like the World Bank, MTV Studios, Disney Animations, and Dell Computers – and the infamous, Enron (not his fault). His career has allowed him to share his love of food with elite NFL athletes, the who’s who of Miami, and former President Bill Clinton.

A free spirit, he grew tired of the corporate lifestyle and working for “the man”, and it was time to branch out on his own. He believed that people deserve food that is made fresh from quality ingredients and wanted to bring together unique flavors from around the world. In 2006 the first Torchy’s Tacos food trailer was opened in Austin, Texas, and quickly became a “must eat” destination for locals and visitors. From humble beginnings, Torchy’s has opened more than 130 locations across 16 states. As CEO, Mike leads the company he founded with a promise to deliver Damn Good food and hospitality to their guests and give opportunities to grow for his team.
